The red thread
Inspired by East Asian legends and a love for embroidery, The Red Thread incorporates the physical element of a single red thread and weaves it throughout the book, connecting typography-based parallel narratives exploring the differences and similarities between fate and destiny.
The Red Thread was one of three books chosen to be created in a limited edition through the Small Plates Program in 2020 held by the San Francisco Center for the Book (SFCB). SFCB provided the space, equipment, technical support, and funds for this project, which resulted in an edition of 100 books.

BOOK
Objective:
Conceptualize, propose, and produce a limited edition 4” x 4” artists’ book within the San Francisco Center for the Book’s Small Plates guidelines and budget.
proposal:
According to East Asian legends, it is said that an invisible, unbreakable red cord is tied around the pinky (or ankle) of those whose lives are fated to intertwine. While the thread may stretch or contract or even tangle, the two parties are decidedly connected — physically bound by the God of Fate. The proposed book will incorporate the physical red thread into its form and use the thread as a means to weave narrative together.
